These are speaker system upgrades for Scale Trains Fox Valley Models Class J N&W 4-8-4 locomotives. Both the boiler-mounted and tender-mounted speakers are fuller, smoother and more detailed than stock.

Understand that the current whistle used on the factory LokSound decoders has too much lower-midrange (and likely some unfiltered bass-information) that causes severe distortion in any speaker. This speaker upgrade sounds much better than the stock speakers, but the whistle sound-file is still problematic. Hopefully ESU will address this with a better-processed whistle!

TWO systems are available depending on which decoder brand you use.

If using LokSound or any other 4Ω-compatible decoder, the "4Ω-Boiler+Tender-Set" includes the boiler-mounted SXTH-JBB1 speaker and the FFRC-AGBB tender-mounted speaker. This system is continuous-rated at 3W.

If using Soundtraxx, TCS WOW or any other 8Ω-minimum decoder, the "5.3Ω-Boiler+Tender-Set" includes the boiler-mounted SCTH-JBB1 speaker and two FFRC-2025 tender-mounted speakers. This system is continuous-rated at 4.5W.

The 2-speaker system running at 4Ω is better with LokSound, while the 3-speaker system running at 5.3Ω is safer with Soundtraxx and TCS.

NOTE: since Soundtraxx and TCS both recommend an 8Ω-minimum for their decoders, it is advisable that you not run either at full-volume. This has nothing to do with power-handling; it's current-draw strain on the power-amps.

The boiler-mounted speaker is designed to work with the Force speakers in the tender, not the stock tender speakers. Upgrading only the boiler speaker (or only the tender speakers) will result in compromised results.
